This is the latest in Reginald Hill's best-selling mystery series featuring detectives Andy Dalziel and Peter Pascoe. In their new adventure, the Yorkshire police officers investigate the suicide of a man who has copied his own father's suicide. But is it possible that one or both of the deaths were actually murder? The earthy Dalziel and his intellectual sidekick Pascoe investigate the family and all the possibilities. Even if you haven't followed their careers in the past, you will enjoy the complex story as it unfolds. Hill takes his time developing the characters, including the other police officers as well as the family and friends of the deceased. The Yorkshire dialect of many of the characters is beautifully rendered by Hill. In an interesting twist, several chapters take the form of first person testimony from those involved, including Andy Dalziel. A fun pick if you enjoy British mysteries.
