In honor of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, we celebrate Tutt Library’s Lincoln Room.
In 1963, Robert W. Hendee and his wife Elinor donated their collection of Lincolniana to Tutt Library. The collection contains books, periodicals, pamphlets, collectibles, works of art, and other materials concerning Lincoln and his times. The Hendee collection is housed in the Lincoln Room on the second floor of Tutt. The room, with its leather chairs and 19th century ambience, has become a favorite study spot for CC students. Special Collections manages the materials in the locked cases.
The Hendee collection contains a single Lincoln autograph, preserved in the rare books room of Special Collections: a letter dated 1860 to Prentiss Dow, reading “My dear Sir, You request an autograph, and here it is. A. Lincoln.”
