The Trump administration released a budget proposal for FY2018 in March. It is different than the budget that Congress passed on April 30 which will fund the government through September. For the bill, check Congress.gov for Text - S.98 - 115th Congress (2017-2018): Balanced Budget.
There has been much online commentary about it and who in government is in favor of it.
The Economist reported that it makes deep cuts into domestic programs. ( See chart below or click here.). Whereas Mick Mulvaney, the US budget director, suggested that "President Donald Trump, and not the Democratic party, is the clear winner of the federal spending bill Congress crafted... even though it bears little resemblance to Trump’s proposed “America First” budget."
Of note to college students, is the 14% proposed cut to the Education Department which would impact items including aid to low-income and minority college students and significantly reduce federal work-study aid to college students.
