CC Librarian and Professor Book Award Finalists

Boylandcover Tutt Library is proud to note that our Special Collections Curator and Archivist, Jessy Randall, is a finalist for the Colorado Book Award for poetry. Her book, A Day in Boyland, is one of four finalists for this award which recognizes outstanding work by Colorado writers.

Jessy isn't the only Colorado College author who is a finalist for the poetry award. English professor David Mason is also being recognized for his verse novel, Ludlow. Winners in all categories will be announced at the 17th annual Colorado Book Awards on Wednesday, October 8 in Denver.

Both books are available at Tutt Library: A Day in Boyland; Ludlow.

Our year in 365 photos

At Tutt Library, we have been taking an average of a photo a day for the last year (actually a little longer--we gave ourselves an extension) and posting them to our Flickr account. There are photos of staff, students, faculty, books, Chas in funny outfits, etc.

Now we're done! Please take a look at our set of 365 Tutt Library Days.

National Library Week, April 13th-19th

National Library Week begins Sunday, April 13th, and we encourage everyone on campus to stop by Tutt Library and revel in the information-rich library air.  (Or if you're already going to be camping out here until the end of block studying for a killer final or fixing those #$*@# page numbers on your thesis again, come down to the lobby and visit with us for a de-stressing break - starting Sunday, we'll have games, puzzles, and coloring stuff on hand.)

Can't get to an actual library for National Library Week?  Check out these entertaining NLW videos (who doesn't love dancing library monsters?), or visit Jessy's library shenanigans page to see wacky and beautiful stunts that have been pulled at libraries across the globe.  (Official disclaimer: Don't try to pull anything too wacky around here - Chas Will Not Approve.)

Happy National Library Week!

National Library Workers Day, April 17

April 17 is National Library Workers Day! Tutt Library will be celebrating with a variety of events. Stop by the library and say hello and thanks to your favorite staff members.

New Systems Librarian, Carol Ou

Tutt Library welcomes our new Systems Librarian, Carol Ou. She comes to us from the library automation vendor Ex Libris, where she was Implementation Librarian for their SFX OpenURL link resolver product. She previously worked at the library of Emory University in Atlanta. Carol holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Simmons College and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Pennsylvania. The library staff is looking forward to working with her on new projects as well as continuing our previous automation efforts.

Tutt Librarian wins award

Tutt Librarian Robin Satterwhite will be honored by the Colorado Association of Libraries with their Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes a librarian who has provided exceptional service to the Association over several years. Robin has served as an officer and committee member in several parts of the Association during her years working in Colorado. The award will be formally presented at the Association's annual conference in November.

Tutt Librarians Attend Conference in New Orleans

AN06-sm-color.jpg
Librarians Robin Satterwhite and Gwen Gregory were among the 18,000 librarians to attend the American Library Association 2006 annual conference in New Orleans June 23-27. This was the first large conference in the city since last year's hurricanes and flooding. Our experiences were generally favorable - the weather was hot and humid, but the people were very friendly, our accommodations were good, and the food was fine. Many businesses are still closed or are open reduced hours. We attended a number of interesting presentations and brought back some great ideas.

Happy graduation, CC seniors!

The Tutt Library would like to wish all CC seniors a happy graduation day. We'd like to to especially recognize those seniors who worked at Tutt Library: Jamie, Joel, Liza, Melissa, Nathan, Michaela, Renee, Sierra, Zuri, and all those seniors who have worked here at some time in their CC career. Congratulations!

Are you living at the library? We want to take your picture!

Do you feel like you have been living at the library this year? Has someone (like a librarian) or something (like a book or journal) at the library helped you in your work or inspired you in your life?

At Tutt Library, we want to get more photos of real CC students in the library-- the old pictures we have, like this one of this student in the pre-personal computer days, really don't cut it anymore--and who better to photograph than those of you who are here more hours a week than we are?

If you are interested, email Humanities Librarian, Steve Lawson, at slawson@coloradocollege.edu. We'll set up a time to take your photo at your usual spot in the library (carrell, table, computer, whatever). In exchange for letting us use your photo for library publicity, you can choose a free book from our box of classic paperbacks.

Librarians to March in Festival of Lights Parade

Come see the librarians of Tutt Library strut their stuff at the Colorado Springs Festival of Lights Parade this Saturday, December 3. The parade begins at 5:30pm, and the route will take our Precision Book Truck Drill Team down Tejon street from Boulder Street to Vermijo, then back up Cascade from Vermijo to Kiowa.

Don't miss the music, the tigers, the book trucks, the librarians!
