"Find Journals," "Tutt Link" maintenance Sat afternoon (Sept 12) - canceled

Tutt Library's Find Journals list will be unavailable on Saturday September 12 between 3pm to 5pm due to network maintenance.  The "Tutt Link" pawprint button seen in various library databases will not function while this maintenance is being done.

As a reminder, you can still find journals in full-text by searching the journal title in the TIGER catalog.

What is happening on the first floor and what did you do with all the videos?

The videos have all been relocated to the second floor next to the current periodicals. This is a part of a phased refurbishing of the lobby and reference areas.  The video shelves were removed to open up the view to the east and create more space for student seating.  With some new tables and seating, this will become a laptop friendly study space.  New carpet will be installed over the winter break.  We hope you like the changes!

Moving from ERes to PROWL at the end of the academic year

Summary: The library will discontinue its ERes service for electronic reserves at the end of this academic year.  This change will simplify use of electronic course reserves for students, and save the college the annual cost of ERes.  For more information on this change see the rationale at the end of this message.

What faculty need to know:

• PROWL is supported by Academic Technology Services. ATS staff will set up a PROWL site for each of your classes.
• The library will continue to support the loading of electronic reserves—but all future courses will be managed on PROWL instead of ERes.  As now, faculty may work with the Library Reserves Coordinator (Marianne Aldrich) to load their materials, load the materials themselves, or designate another agent to manage their course page.
• Over the summer, ATS and library staff will work to move all materials that are currently loaded on ERes to a CC server and make them available to load onto PROWL.
• Librarians and ATS staff members will have administrative access to PROWL academic courses, and will be able to help students find readings.

What faculty need to do:

• Nothing now, we'll handle the transfer. We may contact you with questions about your pages.
• By next fall, let your Academic Technology Specialist know which materials should be loaded onto PROWL.

Background and rationale

A task force of librarians and technology specialists looked at the pros and cons inherent in offering two different services to support electronic reserves.  They recommended that we move to using PROWL as our single service for the following reasons:

• Students are often confused about how to access their course readings. Are they on ERes; are they in PROWL; are they on a professor's own webpage or a department page? This will eliminate one option.
• The library pays an annual maintenance fee for ERes. PROWL is based on open source (MOODLE) software, and managed on local CC servers. In this time of fiscal constraints it makes sense to eliminate redundant services.
• Faculty do not have to use any other PROWL options for their course. PROWL can be used as a tool to manage, host and provide access to readings.  If you are interested in learning about other PROWL features, your Academic Technology Specialist will be happy to work with you!

This recommendation was reviewed by the Information Technology and Library Board at their Block 5 meeting.

Find Journals, TuttLink unavailable Feb 7

Find Journals and TuttLink will be down for maintenance this weekend.  The work will begin at 1pm Mountain time on Saturday, February 7 and should conclude by 1am Mountain time on Sunday, February 8.  While Find Journals and TuttLink are down, you will not be able to search for electronic journals through the Find Journals interface and the TuttLink button that appears in our electronic databases and assists in finding full text will not be operational.

You will still be able to find our full-text journals by searching for the journal titles in the TIGER library catalog.

Update- The work was completed early.  As of 10pm on Saturday February 7, both Find Journals and TuttLink should be fully operational.  Thanks for your patience.

Prospector unavailable Tues, Dec 16

The Prospector catalog will be down the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 16 for a software upgrade. 

Prospector is the union catalog of regional libraries that allows you to request items from other libraries and have them delivered for you to the Circulation Desk at Tutt Library.  While Prospector is down, you will not be able to submit any of those requests.

The upgrade will begin at 8:30am and should conclude by 12pm noon.

Prospector and ILL Request Deadlines due to Winter Break

IMPORTANT: In the past, Tutt Library was open for very limited service over Winter Break, but this year we will be closed. Prospector or Interlibrary Loan books that do not arrive before Dec. 19 cannot be picked up until the library reopens on January 2.

PROSPECTOR BOOK REQUESTS:
The Prospector system for borrowing books not owned by Tutt Library will be turned off during Winter Break. The last day to request Prospector items will be Friday, December 19th. Prospector requests will be possible again on Tuesday, December 30th.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN BOOK REQUESTS:
If you need to request a book from out-of-state through the Interlibrary Loan system, you must do so before December 10 in order for it to have the best chance of arriving before Winter Break starts (and even this cannot be guaranteed). Requests submitted over Winter Break will not be ordered until Jan. 2, 2009.

ARTICLE REQUESTS:
Requests for articles will continue to be ordered by the Interlibrary Loan Dept. through the last day, Dec. 19. If your requested article does not arrive by closing on Dec. 19, it will not be available on your ILLiad account until Jan. 2, 2009.

TIGER down on Friday, Nov. 28

TIGER will be down on Friday, November 28 while facilities does some work on the library's power supply.  TIGER will likely be unavailable between 7am and 4pm.  While TIGER is down, you can still look up our library's holdings using Prospector, though you will be temporarily unable to request any items.

TIGER also functions as our "proxy server," so the usual off-campus access to our licensed databases (i.e. Academic Search Premier, JSTOR) will be unavailable. If you are on-campus, you will still be able to access those databases using these direct database links.

If you haven't learned and used RefWorks you are missing out!
It is a fabulous tool for your research projects keeping you organized as well as saving you a lot of time.

TIGER interface updates

The TIGER catalog will be undergoing a series of updates over the next few days.

On Sunday, Aug. 10, the TIGER interfaces will be updated to the latest templates issued by our vendor.  Though the overall goal was to maintain the current functionality of the online catalog, you will notice an updated "CC" look and feel. 

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, the background module that powers the TIGER interfaces will be  updated to its latest version.  This update lays the groundwork for new features and other improvements we may make to the online catalog in the future. 

There should be no downtime with either of these updates, but please do let us know if you're having any trouble accessing the catalog.
