Interested in looking at voting and election information?
Then CQ Voting and Elections Collection is the place for you.

Find analysis and explanations for both current and historical material on topics like major and minor political parties, campaigns and elections, voter demographics, and races for Congress, the presidency, and governorships.

And there is plenty of data: generate customized data about various aspects of elections in America, in addition to searchable, linked tables, one:

  •     Candidate and Office Histories to track a candidate's political career   and how percentage of the vote changed in the move from challenger to   incumbent. Or in Office Histories, view trends in the total Democratic and Republican vote.
  •     Seat Status and Competition to study incumbency and reelection rates,   open seat races, and races based on competitiveness, for example, by looking   at all candidates who won between 45 to 55% of the vote or who won over 60% of   the vote.
  •     Party Control, Split Districts, and Third Parties to analyze party   control and strength in the House and to understand the impact and activity of   third party candidates.
  •     Party Switches and Special Elections to find all the changes that   affect officeholders outside of the regular election cycle.

Have fun with it!
And don't forget to vote.

New "Find Journals" and link resolver

The library is taking Spring Break to launch a new link resolver and Find Journals list.  The new Find Journals list, now linked from our home page, offers additional search functions that we expect will make it easier to find specific journals.  The new link resolver should do a better job of interpreting the pawprint links that come out of our databases, and be more efficient at connecting you to full text and other library services.

We are also taking this opportunity to introduce a new pawprint button, and return to an old name for the service, "Tutt Link."  As we roll this new system out, you will begin to see this new button across our databases and be able to click on this button to check for full text, look the item up in TIGER or submit an Interlibrary Loan request.

RefWorks Workshop - Wednesday, 1 p.m.

refworkslogo.gif

RefWorks is a web-based citation management software program subscribed to by the CC Library. It is free to CC faculty, staff and students. RefWorks collects, stores and organizes citations from databases, library catalogs, books, articles, web sites, and other sources. RefWorks helps format those citations into a bibliography in a variety of citation styles, including MLA, APA and Chicago Style.

If you are working on a lengthy research project or thesis, RefWorks might save you time and frustration. Come to a hands-on, hour long workshop WEDNESDAY at 1 p.m., TLC1 to learn more about it.

Brief TIGER outage - Oct 26

There will be a brief TIGER outage Friday, Oct 26, 2007. TIGER is expected to be down for half an hour, 8:30am to 9:00am, so we can physically relocate the server. While TIGER is down, you may still look up our library holdings using Prospector, though you will be temporarily unable to request any items.

TIGER also functions as our "proxy server," so the usual access to our licensed databases (i.e. Academic Search Premier, JSTOR) will be unavailable as well. If you are on-campus, you may still access those databases using these direct database links if you are on-campus.

If you have any questions, please contact Carol Ou, Systems Librarian at 389-6895. You can also reach Circulation at 389-6184 or Reference at 389-6662 for help.

*Update*-- As of 9:30am, TIGER is still not online from its new location. This entry will be updated when TIGER is once again accessible.

*Update*-- As of 10:20am, TIGER is back online.

RefWorks class, Thu. 10/11 at 1:00 in TLC2

Learn to use RefWorks, the online bibliography manager. Steve Lawson, Humanities Librarian, will give an introduction and overview of this web-based software that allows you to keep track of the books, articles, and other things you need to cite for your papers, thesis, and so on.

Learn how to import references from databases like EBSCO and JSTOR and library catalogs like TIGER. RefWorks will help you keep track of your working bibliography while you write, and create a final bibliography and notes in the proper format (APA, Chicago, MLA, or any of dozens of other formats).

We'll meet in the TLC2 classroom (basement on the Learning Commons side of Tutt Library) at 1:00 on Thursday, October 11. The class will go until 2:30 which should give us plenty of time for an overview and all your questions. If you can't stay that long, that's OK too.

Ebsco Database Problems- Use these links

We are randomly encountering error messages along with screen formatting problems when using Ebsco databases (Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MLA, GeoRef, etc.) The most common problem is an error message: "Application level exception". Ebsco has been notified of the problem.

A new "improved" Ebsco interface seems to be incompatible with our proxy server (the mechanism which authenticates CC users with the Ebsco databases. ) Internet Explorer users appear to have more trouble than Firefox users, but all encounter occasional problems. A temporary solution is to use the links listed below. These links will only work ON CAMPUS.

TIGER down - August 9

TIGER will be undergoing a hardware upgrade on Thursday, August 9. Expect the TIGER library catalog to be inaccessible all day. You may still look up our library holdings using Prospector, though you will not be able to request any items while TIGER is down.

TIGER also functions as our "proxy server," so the usual off-campus access to our licensed databases (i.e. Academic Search Premier, JSTOR) will be unavailable as well. You may still access those databases using these direct database links if you are on-campus.

TIGER should be back up by the end of the day. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Ou, Systems Librarian at 389-6895. You can also reach Circulation at 389-6184 or Reference at 389-6662 for help.

Due to the College-wide computer network upgrade, the TIGER library catalog will not be available on Saturday, March 17 for the entire day. Tutt Library is also closed Saturday and Sunday, the 17th and 18th.

Since TIGER is also used as our "proxy server" which allows CC community members to access library databases (such as EBSCO, JSTOR, etc.) , off-campus access to these databases will likely be interrupted all day as well.

You can still search for books in the CC library using Prospector, which has our holdings along with many other libraries in Colorado. You also may be able to access library databases from on-campus only using the links to databases on this list of database links (the usual links won't work on Saturday 3/17).

We anticipate everything being back to normal on Sunday, March 18. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Humanities Librarian, Steve Lawson, at slawson@coloradocollege.edu.

ERes elctronic reserves likely down today, 10/2 from noon to 2PM

We received notice today that ERes will be performing routine maintenance on its servers from noon to 2:00PM today, Monday October 2.

We expect this will mean that ERes will be unavailable or highly erratic during this time.

Sorry! Welcome back for block 2!
